The Platinum Izumo Galaxy Starlight Raden fountain pen is a showcase for this meticulous form of Maki-e art. Each pen requires a minimum of six months to be produced. Normally provided with only limited nib choices, we can make it available to you with your choice of Platinum 18k solid gold nib.
A traditional craft techinque with a centuries-long history in Japan, Raden Maki-e technique involves the careful application of raden shell over multiple layers of natural urushi lacquer. The shape and structure of the pattern of raden flakes on the surface of the pen is considered vitally important - the Maki-e artist will even use a tool to adjust the position of individual pieces of raden shell to ensure a harmonious design.
A strong outer layer of clear urushi lacquer protects the Maki-e work and allows this pen to function as a superb every day writing instrument. The provided converter allows it to use any bottled fountain pen ink, and the Izumo model can also use convenient Platinum brand disposable ink cartridges.
Each pen ships in a special softwood presentation box with kanji style artwork on the front. A fabric pen kimono and complimentary ink bottles is also included. We are an authorized Platinum dealer.

The Zen Of Fine Writing
Sad news, Friends... Our physical store in Biltmore Village has been completely destroyed. It's been devastating for us and has been emotionally hard to process or even get our minds around. The flood waters basically swirled all the way to the ceilings, smashing everything to bits and leaving everything coated in toxic mud.
During our transition we set up a "Current Offerings" shopping page where we are adding new items daily. If you don't see what you're looking for, just let us know and we'll arrange getting it to you, since it's likely that we have it but it's simply not up on our site yet. Keep checking back and you will find something new each time you do! We should have this temporary shopping page expanded to a complete website in the next month.
If any of you feel inclined, we have set up a Go Fund Me site for donations. Here is the link to that: https://www.gofundme.com/f/join-us-in-restoring-a-beloved-local-haven
